We asked Veleta, “When you’re behind the camera, what inspires you to protect the places you photograph?”

“I started a butterfly garden in hopes of attracting monarch butterflies and hummingbirds. I’ve had nearly 30 butterfly and moth species visit my garden! This led to learning about other host plants and adding more native plants and trees to my property. I started to search for caterpillars beyond the garden and discovered so many other amazing insects, birds, and processes. I use my photos to help me identify and learn about my discoveries. I love to share my photos of the interesting and unusual wonders I’ve been fortunate enough to witness and hope to inspire others to create and protect habitats for generations to come. Get outside and look around!”
